IIDA Texas Oklahoma Chapter’s SHIFT Student Conference brings together an array of top students, educators, and design industry professionals for a multi-day professional enrichment experience. The annual conference includes: project and firm tours, portfolio reviews and mock interviews conducted by working professionals, an industry expo, continuing education for professionals, and a variety of networking opportunities.

In line with the IIDA mission, SHIFT Student Conference is designed to elevate the profession of Interior Design and lead the way for the next generation of interior designers. Participants are involved in a variety of events that are designed to enhance their knowledge of the practice and influence of Interior Design through presentations and conversations with practicing professionals.

About SHIFT student conference

IIDA Texas Oklahoma Chapter’s SHIFT 2019 student conference will be held from February 27th through March 1st in Dallas, Texas. Events and hotel accommodations will be located at the Westin Galleria Dallas. Participation is limited to 200 students and educators. IIDA membership is not required to attend SHIFT, but certain events and financial support opportunities are available exclusively to IIDA members. Join IIDA now!

Awards

Eligible to any IIDA Texas Oklahoma Chapter Student Member with IIDA SHIFT 2019 conference registration & travel-related expenses that have not been paid for by another entity.

The IIDA TX/OK Chapter will be awarding up to 10 registration reimbursements. Award winners will be announced at the Keynote Luncheon on Friday, March 1, 2019.

Faqs

What if I missed the registration deadline?

Onsite registration will only be available for CEU courses. Due to the unique nature of the conference and its carefully coordinated event schedules, we are unable to accommodate late registration for the full conference. PLEASE NOTE: Many conference events have a participation cap so we recommend registering early to reserve your spot! SHIFT 2019 Conference registration closes at 12:00 AM (CDT) on January 15, 2019.

How much does parking cost?

The Westin Galleria Dallas Hotel is connected to the Dallas Galleria. Free parking is available in the Galleria Mall garage.

What is the conference attire?

Business or business-casual attire is required. (No jeans, mini-skirts, flip-flops, etc.) The project and firm tours as well as the industry expo event require long periods of standing and walking. We recommend bringing comfortable shoes that can easily be slipped on for these events if necessary.

Can I bring a camera?

Absolutely! Make sure to connect with us and share your experience on social media with #IIDASHIFT19. Please be aware photography may not be allowed at some tour locations. Your tour chaperones will advise participants whenever this is the case.

What happens if it rains?

Dallas weather can be unpredictable. You will be getting on and off a charter bus for the project and firm tours so bring an umbrella just in case.

What if I have food allergies?

When you register, you will have the ability to note any food allergies. It is imperative that you note any food allergies at that time so that we may do our best to accommodate your needs. We recommend bringing any specially required food items that we may not have access to.

What if I need to cancel my registration?

The deadline for cancellations is Wednesday, January 17, 2019. Please contact the IIDA Texas Oklahoma Chapter Administrator, Megan Romboletti, for cancellation requests.

I’m an educator. Can I attend the conference and also take CEU courses?

Yes, you can! Visit the CEU Registration page for more information — registration for CEUs is separate from conference registration.

I attended last year and want to tour a different firm this year. Is that possible?

All tours are dependent on which companies volunteer to host our conference participants. We cannot guarantee which tour locations will be assigned to attendees.

When I go on the tours, will I be paired with others from my school?

There is a chance you will not attend the same tours as your classmates. This is a great networking opportunity so we encourage you to make new contacts and friends.

How do I register for the charrette competition?

Participation in the charrette competition is by invitation only. Faculty Sponsors of active IIDA Campus Centers will receive an invitation by email to nominate four students to participate in this event. Information on how to be a Campus Center can be found on the IIDA website. You can also contact the IIDA Texas Oklahoma Chapter VP of Campus Centers, Shannon Oliveira, for more information.

Can I bring a digital portfolio to the portfolio review?

You are more than welcome to bring a digital portfolio for review. However, you will also need to bring your own laptop. WiFi is free to hotel guests, but may not be accessible on the conference floor. We recommend saving your digital file to your computer so that it can be viewed without internet access.

Can I attend the events that are for professionals only?

Due to space limitations, the professional events offered at SHIFT, like the CEU courses and Roundtables, are reserved for educators, designers, and other practicing professionals. We encourage you to make plans to attend these at a future conference as a practicing professional.

Who do I talk to if I need assistance during the conference?

Volunteers will be stationed at the check-in/help desk in the 3rd floor lobby throughout the conference. The conference chairs and event coordinators will also be participating in each event and are available to assist as needed.
